Sally heads one of the UK’s most successful funds, which has assets of £18bn. In a rare move at CEO level, Sally was recruited on a part time basis. Flexibility is very important to her. Aged 38, she fell off a cliff in an accident and her joy at being alive led her to re-evaluate life. After having a long awaited child she started working part time on her return to work with her previous employer. This worked so well she vowed never to work full time again. Since joining BP Sally has become a role model for flexibility and advocates gap years for middle managers. She says, ‘Most people would like to spend less of their lives working, but rarely have the courage to take action,’ and has founded Executive Shift, a flexible working charity.
