Making construction a great place to work

Construction is lagging behind in its working practices, and with an ageing workforce, skills shortages and the need to be more diverse and inclusive, its more important than ever for the industry to change.

Our recent webinar with an expert panel of HR leaders from within the industry tackled the key challenges faced by the industry and shared real-life, practical insights on how to create more on-site flexibility.

Here are 3 takeaways from the event:

  • It sounds like informal flex agreements onsite are becoming widespread, which is great in terms of volume, although the informality can hide the flex. We need to shout more loudly about all flex arrangements onsite.
  • Flex helps physical wellbeing. It helps mental wellbeing. We know it works when we empower managers to find the right solutions.
  • We need to be bold and challenge the way things have always been done. That’s how you start laying the foundations of a better future.

Our report includes a 10 point plan with guidance for employers on how to do this, and also recommendations to the Construction Leadership Council to catalyse change at scale.
