Four-Day Week pilot, Autumn 2024

Timewise and the 4 Day Week Campaign partnered to launch a second four-day week pilot in the UK in autumn 2024, with research support from University of Cambridge, Boston College and the Autonomy Institute.

The six-month pilot began in November with trainings and workshops starting in mid-September.

This time, the pilot was broader to include organisations that would like to experiment with other forms of flexibility such as:

  • a shorter working week
  • flexible start & finish time
  • nine-day fortnight
  • compressed hours

These organisations also took part in and benefit from the support, guidance and insight provided through the pilot programme.

Four-Day Week Results

As reported by the Guardian, nearly 1,000 UK workers are permanently adopting shorter working weeks following the trial:

  • Organisations reported that they were able to maintain performance and service levels and whilst observing several benefits for employee well-being
  • Employees saw registered improvements in their physical and mental health
  • All organisations will continue with the four-day week, with employees remaining on full-time salaries.
