    Policy and Innovation Director

    An experienced social innovator and public policy expert, Clare joined Timewise in 2023. Prior to that she was Associate Director at IPPR (Institute for Public Policy Research), where she is still an Associate Fellow. She is also the founder of Workwhile (previously known as the London Progression Collaboration), an initiative which is breaking down barriers to good quality work for young disadvantaged adults and marginalised people.

    As part of the Executive Team at Timewise, Clare leads our programmes of research and innovation to help shape the future of work, tackle labour market inequality and improve job design. She has a background in funding and leading large-scale and influential research programmes on poverty & inequality, work & skills, health, social care & childcare. She is the author and editor of more than twenty pamphlets, chapters and essays on these and other issues.

    Clare is a former adviser to the Cabinet Office, where she led initiatives to increase levels of diversity and inclusion within the senior civil service. Clare is also a broadcaster, presenting regular slots for BBC Radio 4’s Analysis series and has appeared on BBC Newsnight, Sky news and other various other Radio 4 programmes. Clare has a young child and works part-time for Timewise.
