Sarah works within engineering consultancy Atkins’ aerospace business, leading a team of engineers who design aircraft systems and structures. Sarah was the first person there to work in a part time client-facing role, following the birth of her daughter (now 4). This has paved the way for 5 of her colleagues to follow suit. During her first year of part time working, Sarah’s responsibilities grew. She began managing 40 staff, and was promoted. She has since been promoted again, and now manages a division of 70 people. In addition to her day-to-day work, Sarah promotes diversity and inclusive working practices through the company’s Gender Balance Focus Group and creates initiatives to encourage young people into engineering.
