It's one of our aims to provide accreditation for public sector organisations, to drive action and to measure and recognise success in the best practice of flexible working and hiring. We now have a growing network of Timewise Councils and Timewise NHS Trusts, big and small, across the country.

What is the Timewise Accreditation programme?

It’s a continuous improvement programme to help public sector organisations identify, adopt and share best practice in flexible working as a valuable tool in achieving efficiency and transformational change. Take a look at the public sector clients who are already working with us.

The programme and network is run by flexibility experts Timewise, a multi award-winning social business that provides consultancy and recruitment services to many of the UK’s leading employers across both public and private sectors. Timewise delivers the programme in partnership with the Local Government Association.

Why focus on flexible working?

Because whilst most employers in the UK have a flexible working policy, the reality is that 14 million UK workers don’t have the flexibility they need, especially when looking to progress in their careers or return from a career break. Consequently, employers are missing out on the full benefits of flexibility to drive business performance, build inclusive workplaces and access the best possible talent.

In a time of unprecedented pressure on budgets and services, public sector organisations need to find ways to ensure they use talent in the right way at the right time, for maximum performance and organisational value. Recruiting, developing and retaining staff who can thrive in this culture is a priority, and embracing flexible working and flexible hiring is key to making this work. It also helps you to be a role model local employer, supporting inclusive growth by helping local people into work.

How does it work?

The Timewise Accreditation programme has been designed as a suite of tools and services to help you develop approaches that match the context of your organisation, and that fit with your strategic objectives and priorities. The core programme should fit with existing HR/OD/D&I programmes and comprises the following stages:

  1. Briefing and initial diagnostic
  2. Assessment of where you are now: flexibility audit and analysis
  3. Identifying where you want to be: developing your vision for flexible working
  4. The plan to achieve your vision: creating your flexibility improvement plan
  5. Leadership workshop to gain their commitment to lead by example
  6. Award of Timewise Accredited status

At the end of the programme, you will have a structured improvement plan with clear actions to drive change in flexible working and flexible hiring, and showcase your work to influence other local employers / partners. Upon submission of your improvement plan, you will be awarded Timewise Accredited status as a Timewise Council or Timewise Trust.

How much cost is involved?

Aside from a consultancy fee payable to Timewise, there is no specific requirement for organisations to spend money on flexible working. We expect improvement plans to add value for you, either by increasing the impact of your services, improving vacancy filling or by delivering more efficiently.
